Our centre in North Wales is surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty such as the Berwyn hills and the mountains of central Snowdonia. This is the perfect environment for young people to learn how to look after their own physical and mental wellbeing. Hillwalking and overnight expeditions can be used to support the ‘healthy lifestyles’ element of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) in the curriculum.
Under the guidance of our qualified mountain leaders, Pupils will learn how to equip themselves and stay safe in this challenging environment. The emphasis will be on experiential learning that will provide opportunities for pupils to learn new skills, so that they are better able to look after their own wellbeing as well as the welfare of others.
In addition to these important life skills, learning will also be linked directly to school subjects such as geography, geology and history. There are a number of historic sites in the area, such as hillforts, castles and WWII crash sites.
