Away From Home For The First Time

For many young people going away on a school residential, is their first experience of staying away from home and family. We understand this and that is why at Pro-Active we try to ensure that young people feel at ease. We have dedicated friendly staff, smiling faces and a friendly ear when one is needed. We have excellent pastoral care facilities, such as 24 hour reception desk, CTV monitoring of public areas, tuck shop, picnic areas and first Aid Room.

While your child is away you may well be keen to call them to see how they are doing, and that is fine you can do that. However we have found is easier for children to call you from our payphones which are available at the Centre. If you are worried that your child may be a little homesick, we recommend that you leave it a few days before you speak with them. It’s far better to give them time to settle in than arouse any negative feelings about being away. Most Children find that these feelings lessen after a few days with so much going on.

Accommodation

At Tyn Dwr we have a choice of accommodation. The “Yurt” camp is popular with school groups. A Yurt was originally used by the Mongolian tribal people from the far Easter Step. We have several permanent Yurts on site; they have their own separate washing and shower facilities. Each Yurt sleeps 10 in bunks, each pupil has their own personal storage locker. These are great fun summer and winter. Alternatively there is “The Coach House” which is traditional dormitory-style accommodation, with boys and girls on separate floors and gender-separated bathroom & shower facilities. Sheets, duvets and pillows are provided for all guests. Teacher rooms are always nearby on the same corridor. If the school is taking the “Gold” package then pupils will sleep in the wonderful old mansion which is the main building. Rooms are twin bedded and have en-suite facilities. Pictures of all the accommodation styles are on the web site for you to see.

Menus

Your school will have a choice of menu packages, all are nutritious with lots of choice with seasonal variations. Each day has a carefully balanced meal plan, updated as appropriate to meet and exceed the latest Government standards on children’s meals. We are able to cater for all cultural needs and social value systems.
