School trips abroad in Morocco

Our exciting new venue for our school trips abroad is Morocco. Our local guide is Mohamed, he is certified and very experienced. He and his team will look after all our needs whilst we are in Morocco. We will be based in the ancient market town of Marrakesh, staying in Hotels or Riads.

Jemaa el Fna

For the first two days of the school trip, we travel out each day to take part in local activities.

Day One

On the first day, you have a choice of biking, high obstacle course and horse riding.

Day Two

On the second day, we drive high into the Atlas mountains to a little village called Oukaimeden. There we will stop for a drink of mint tea before we set off on a short walk over a mountain pass to the climbing location. On the side of the mountain you will have fantastic views over the Atlas and the plains back towards Marrakesh. Later in the day, we walk back to Oukaimeden for a late lunch. We then take a slow drive back to Marrakesh to look at the mountain views as we travel. Along the way, you will get chance to stop at road side shops and businesses to bargain for souvenirs. When we get back to Marrakesh, you will have chance for an escorted visit to the Souk to do some real shopping and bargaining.

Day Three

On day three of your school trip, you will start your Trek. We will head for the mountain village of Imlil and stop by a small stream to take another mint tea before your climb. Our heavy bags will be taken ahead by mules; all you require is a day sack with your daily needs. We then climb the mountain pass with fantastic views in all directions. After a couple of hours, we arrive at a small group of trees where our porters will have prepared lunch. You will have chance to rest in the shade and take some more pictures. After lunch, we pass through small mountain villages along the river valley as we make the final push to our over night stay in Tizi Oussem. We will stay in a very basic, but comfortable, hostel in the village where our porters will again cook us our evening meal. You will get the chance to watch the sun set over the Atlas and watch the changing light over Jebel Toukbal, Morocco’s highest peak.

Day Four

After breakfast, we push even higher over a wooded mountain pass before we descend to Imlil, where a hot shower and evening meal in Mohamed’s hostel awaits us. We stay overnight in Imlil before we set off on our 4X4 trek to the western desert.

Day Five

The first day of the 4X4 trek will take us through ever-changing scenery to visit an old French Colonial, Kasbah of Telouet, for a short visit. We will then stop for lunch before pushing on to Ouarzazate to stop overnight. After our evening meal, you will have the opportunity to walk around town and take in the sights.

Day Six

We set off again and head for Zagora. Along the way, we will make stops for the usual mint tea and browse in roadside shops. Lunch is typically a picnic at the side of the trail under some date palms. We usually reach Zagora about 3:30pm – just in time for a mint tea. Feeling refreshed, we load up the camels and head out through the date palms to the edge of the Sahara desert. After about an hour and a half we reach a Berber camp where we will stay overnight as their guests. They will prepare a traditional dish for our evening meal and usually put on some traditional music and dancing. You are, of course, welcome to join in! We stay overnight in their tents or, as many of our visitors like to do, you can sleep out under the stars on a sand dune and watch the moon pass overhead. Early the next morning, after breakfast, we travel back to Marrakesh to rest up and have one final shopping trip round the Souk.

Day Seven

We depart for home.

We also offer many other treks including: Morocco’s highest peak, Jebel Toukbal; four day mountain treks; and 4X4 or quad treks to places of interest or outstanding beauty such as the desert by Marzouga.
