No matter if you’re young or old, nothing boosts confidence and self-esteem quite like successfully climbing! This is especially true if you have a friend or family member who is afraid of heights, and battling these fears will provide the skills they need to overcome mental and physical struggles throughout life.

Climbing is a full body activity that incorporates every major muscle group and appendage. It also requires careful coordination, you will need to look at the route and then determine how to get their hands and feet onto the best holds

Because climbing is a full body activity, it’s a great way to enhance overall physical fitness. You will exercise their core, legs, arms, and even the tiny muscles in their hands. Endurance is also a big part of climbing, especially as you progress to longer and more technically difficult routes.

Climbing is as much of a mental challenge as it is a physical adventure.

When you climb your first rock wall, they may be overwhelmed by all of the ways they can make it to the top. As you climb more you will learn how to mentally map out the most efficient ways to navigate the holds. These problem solving and planning skills can easily transfer to everyday life.

A rock face is an outdoor gym. It might be a little scary and intimidating at first, but with enough practice and coaching from our instructors you will be scaling walls while smiling in no time.

Gorge Walking:

Gorge walking is a very exciting activity that involves scrambling up rocks, jumping into plunge pools, sliding down natural water slides and abseiling down waterfalls.

Gorge walking is a highly enjoyable activity that will bolster your confidence and provide a real physical challenge. This activity is very popular with visiting adults and families. There will be many situations where you will have to work together to overcome obstacles. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn about the local environment, history, geography and geology.

We will always start in a relatively gentle area whilst you learn some basic techniques to help them to have more fun adventure in the gorge. There are various challenges such as climbing up waterfalls or scrambling up rocks or sliding down the rocks into deep pools of water. This activity takes place in some of Wales’s most beautiful gorges, most are designated SSSI. For this reason alone careful attention must be paid to instruction. If it’s a gorge that we climb up, you’ll have waterfalls gushing down next to you and white water splashing against your face and under your feet. If it is a gorge we descend, then you can sit and slide as you’re carried (not too speedily) down the rapids. No previous experience is needed to gorge walk all you need is a “Have A Go spirt”.

Gorge walking is a great way to eliminate stress and enjoy nature’s beauty. We have a range of locations to suit different ability levels from those who may be a little nervous to those seeking an adrenaline fuelled challenge.

Bush Craft:

You don’t need to be a TV celebrity to become accomplished at outdoor activities like bush craft. In our Bush Craft sessions we will teach you how and where to find the best source of ignition and then the best place to collect the fuel for the heart of your fire. With careful coaching you will try several methods of starting a fire, to discover what suits you the best. Then you are just a few strikes away from making yourself a hot drink or snack.

We will also look at different cooking techniques, maybe a Hobo Stove, Gillie Kettle or even a medieval skillet. Anyway once your fire is going we will use one or the other  cooking techniques to either make a hot drink or cook a simple meal, a nice treat for your hard work. On longer courses we can introduce you to simple bush craft equipment for shelter building and sleeping systems so we can build an overnight bush camp to enjoy an evening meal followed by sleeping out under the stars. If you wish to do the overnight bush camp, it involves an afternoon activity learning all the necessary bush craft skills then an evening to build the bush camp.

If you choose to sleep out under the stars in your Bush Camp adventure, we advise that you bring your own sleeping bag so that you have a fall back option just in case the night becomes particularly cold. We carry centre sleeping bags as part of our emergency equipment, but it’s just nice to have your own personal sleeping bag from home!

Coasteering:

Coasteering is a relatively new activity that has been developed by climbers who need to traverse the coastline to get to or from sea cliffs. Coasteering is a combination of climbing, jumping, swimming and scrambling. The great thing about coasteering is that, if you are not so physically fit, you can be equipped to allow yourself to participate at your own level.  If anyone doesn’t like to jump in, then they don’t have to.

Coasteering has been described as “extreme rock pooling”, or “an aquatic nature-trail” I feel that these are very good descriptions. In a nutshell it is an all-in-one experience that treats the foreshore as an eco-adventure playground. It’s about rock-hopping, shore-scrambling, swell-riding, cave-exploring and, yes of course, cliff-jumping.

However it’s as much about discovering our wildlife and coastline at close-quarters, this is an intimacy that walkers never experience. It’s not uncommon to see seals swimming nearby attracted by the noise they come to see what’s going on. Sea birds can be seen nesting high on the cliffs above and diving for fish. Caves are there to be explored along with off shore islands.

In many ways coasteering is an ultimate all-round fitness activity to build strength, develop co-ordination and team work. You will scramble over rocks, swim into canyons, explore caves, bodysurf the breakers, peer into rockpools, learn about geology and leap off a cliff or two. Changing tides, waves and wildlife make every coasteering trip unique. Specialist gear is needed to enjoy Coasteering safely, all of which we supply.

Raft Building:

Raft Building is a classic outdoor activity, adventure. Its great fun for everyone because you get a chance to get completely soaking wet for a legitimate reason! Due to the fact that most people will almost guarantee that they get wet, during the spring and late autumn, we always choose to put this on at the end of the day so that you can get back to the hotel/centre to warm up and dry off.

We can deliver raft building as a fun event or if you wish as a little more involved event that helps to develop team work, communication, design and budgeting. How do we do this? Well, firstly you will be split into teams, then given a financial budget. Then they will be given the task of designing and build a raft that is within budget and able to carry your team on a course to race with the opposing team(s).

They will have on offer from our trailer shop a selection of large plastic barrels, wooden poles, ropes and paddles. They will have to buy the pieces that they need to build their raft, using your allocated budget. The winning team is the team that completes the race course carrying all it’s team members and has the greatest allocated budget remaining. This is a great competitive exercise for groups, which brings out the real characters within your group.

Mountain Biking:

Over the last few decades, mountain biking has remained a popular outdoor recreational activity. As public health concerns including obesity, and diabetes are on the rise, physical exercise, especially in the outdoors, is becoming more critical to our health as individuals and as a society. Mountain biking is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the many health benefits of regular fitness and cardiovascular exercise. Regular exercise is known to improve cardiovascular fitness. Mountain biking uses large muscle groups that require a lot of oxygen. This makes the heart work steadily, increasing your heart’s fitness by 3-7%.

The demands of mountain biking stimulate your body to release natural endorphins, which are the body’s way of feeling good and getting more energy. Exercise also boosts serotonin, an important neurotransmitter in the brain which helps to prevent low mood and anxiety. The focus and attention needed to ride a single-track trail can become a form of moving meditation, ultimately helping you to relax. Gaining new skills and improving your mountain biking abilities also helps to build confidence and self-esteem.

Researchers at Illinois University found that a 5% improvement in cardio-respiratory fitness from cycling led to an improvement of up to 15% on mental tests. This is in part due to building brain cells in the hippocampus, the region of the brain responsible for memory. “It boosts blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which fires and regenerates receptors, explaining how exercise helps ward off Alzheimer’s,” Professor Arthur Kramer. So a hidden benefit to improve your brain power!

The newer field of happiness psychology has shown that healthy relationships and social interactions are key to being happy and finding meaning in life. Mountain biking is often a social activity shared by clubs and groups who get out to ride together. It provides a perfect opportunity for you to build personal bonds and make new friends with people outside of your everyday life who enjoy the same activities that you do.

Sit On Kayak

Sit On Kayak

What better way to experience the great outdoors than to get legitimately wet and muddy on the trail? Seriously though, mountain biking, more than any other activity, allows you to quickly get off the beaten path and enjoy the solitude and majesty of nature. Japanese researchers have shown that being out in nature (what they refer to as “forest bathing”) improves relaxation and reduces stress. While a busy urban environment has exactly the opposite effects of stimulating the fear and anxiety centres in the brain.

Corporate Events:

Team building and corporate events are not only of great benefit to management groups, it is also very beneficial to other adult groups to take  part in these activities to develop team working and communications skills. It is important for people to explore and implement skills that they will need later on in life. Our team building and corporate events follow “Belbins” theories of team development and function. We offer a range of courses to meet the needs of many adult groups who wish to explore team building or development.

We will explore such skills such as communication, problem solving and collaboration, all are used in all areas of our life. Our team building programmes empower people to learn and perfect these, and other, skills. What’s more is that they’ll have fun whilst doing it. These activities will get you laughing and bonding, otherwise they wouldn’t work!

The aim of our team initiative exercises is to help people improve their logic and problem-solving skills. They’ll need to develop unique ways to think about tasks and try problem solving methods they haven’t used before. This will enable people to tackle issues that they face in their day-to-day life and employment too. Simply contact us to discuss your aims and objectives and we will develop a suitable programme to meet your needs.

Team building exercises come in lots of different forms:

Fun

Some team building exercises are simply fun! By doing a pleasant activity together, participants will feel positive towards one another and create a bond. These are our “Ice breaker” challenges.

Sit On Kayak

Sit On Kayak

Logic/Problem Solving

These exercises involve collaborating to solve a puzzle. They can be based on physical activities or sitting down to calculate a strategy. Participants are presented with a scenario or challenge that they must overcome by working as a team.

Creative

Our team building exercises with a creative spin mean collaborating with each other to produce an end result. They usually take the form of each person contributing something to the project. The goal here is to set up a project where everyone must first work together to find out which part of the project they want to take and how they can help. Participants will learn the importance of communicating and providing constant updates on their progress.

Challenging

If you chose we can organise to set a difficult challenge for your group and find out how they overcome it. Rather than working together to solve a puzzle, your group will have to make difficult decisions.
